Board Members

The Rev. Julie Boleyn, Board President, is a co-founder of Awake. Julie is a graduate of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (M.Div.) and has a background in fundraising and organizational development. Julie serves as Pastor to Unity Lutheran Church.

Lisa Polderman, Board Vice President, is a cofounder and former director of Awake. Lisa is a graduate of Warwick University, UK (BA) and has a background in nonprofit development and program management.

Ana Rios, Treasurer, is a former instructor of Conversational Spanish at Awake and is currently Board Treasurer with the Berwyn Historical Society. Ana is employed with the University of Chicago Medicine as a legal administrative assistant.

Michelle Colucci, Board Secretary, is a former instructor with Awake. Michelle is a graduate of DePaul University (MA) and has a background in education.

Will Hudson, Director, is a 6th grade teacher and middle level coordinator at The Children’s School in Berwyn. He holds an MAT in Biological Science from Miami University and is National Board Certified for teaching English as a New Language.

Elizabeth Jimenez, Director, is Vice-President BOE for Berwyn South School District 100, Board of Director for Illinois Education Association, and National Education Association Resolution Committee member. Elizabeth is a graduate of Illinois State University and Concordia University and is currently 3rd Grade English Language teacher for Maercker School District 60.

Astrid Schuler, Director, is a transitional kindergarten teacher for Cicero district 99 and holds a master’s degree in Science of Education from Northern Illinois University. Astrid is a former member of the Kohl McCormick Foundation and Advance Illinois for Education.

Ana Marín, Director, has a background in community organizing and is currently the Director of Development at Arise Chicago and co-founder of Berwyn Community Action. Ana is a graduate of San Diego State University (MA) and completed PhD course hours at the University of Texas at Austin.

Shawnda Steer, Director, has studied Early Childhood Development and is a former Marketing Coordinator. Shawnda serves as North Berwyn Community Liaison, PTO President for D98 Jefferson Elementary, Director of PCC Community Page 11 Wellness Center, and owns her own business, Creative Hands Recycled Accessory for adults and children.

Joel Wallen, Director, is the Programs Director at Youth Crossroads and hold a master’s degree in Non-Profit Management from DePaul University. Sarah Mae Craig, Director, is a current student at Dominican University in the Brennan School of Business (Class of 2019), studying accounting and economics.

Margaret Paul, Director, is the Berwyn City Clerk. Margaret is a licensed attorney admitted to the bar in Illinois and the U.S. District Court, 7th Circuit. She is a graduate of Wayne State University (Detroit) and The John Marshall Law School (Chicago). Awake has two major areas of programming, community engagement and educational opportunities.
